Investing.com – U.S. stocks were mixed after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the , and sectors led shares higher while losses in the , and sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the gained 0.01% to hit a new 1-month high, while the index fell 0.74%, and the index fell 2.04%.
The best performers of the session on the were Visa Inc Class A (NYSE:), which rose 4.66% or 9.05 points to trade at 203.43 at the close. Meanwhile, 3M Company (NYSE:) added 3.54% or 4.20 points to end at 122.70 and Amgen Inc (NASDAQ:) was up 2.57% or 6.67 points to 266.66 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Boeing Co (NYSE:), which fell 8.77% or 12.86 points to trade at 133.79 at the close. Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:) declined 7.72% or 19.34 points to end at 231.32 and Salesforce Inc (NYSE:) was down 3.24% or 5.36 points to 159.91.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Universal Health Services Inc (NYSE:) which rose 13.05% to 109.30, Rollins Inc (NYSE:) which was up 10.04% to settle at 39.55 and Enphase Energy Inc (NASDAQ:) which gained 9.90% to close at 291.87.
The worst performers were Assurant Inc (NYSE:) which was down 10.48% to 136.74 in late trade, Alphabet Inc Class C (NASDAQ:) which lost 9.64% to settle at 94.82 and Alphabet Inc Class A (NASDAQ:) which was down 9.14% to 94.93 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were ESSA Pharma Inc (NASDAQ:) which rose 180.23% to 4.82, Cipher Mining Inc (NASDAQ:) which was up 42.56% to settle at 1.18 and Loyalty Ventures Inc (NASDAQ:) which gained 39.60% to close at 1.15.
The worst performers were Thermogenesis Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:) which was down 49.56% to 0.11 in late trade, Fednat Holding Co (NASDAQ:) which lost 30.98% to settle at 0.42 and Taysha Gene Therapies Inc (NASDAQ:) which was down 27.52% to 2.16 at the close.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 1863 to 1239 and 118 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2206 rose and 1589 declined, while 185 ended unchanged.
Shares in Assurant Inc (NYSE:) fell to 52-week lows; falling 10.48% or 16.00 to 136.74. Shares in Rollins Inc (NYSE:) rose to 52-week highs; gaining 10.04% or 3.61 to 39.55. Shares in Alphabet Inc Class C (NASDAQ:) fell to 52-week lows; falling 9.64% or 10.11 to 94.82. Shares in Alphabet Inc Class A (NASDAQ:) fell to 52-week lows; down 9.14% or 9.55 to 94.93. Shares in Amgen Inc (NASDAQ:) rose to all time highs; gaining 2.57% or 6.67 to 266.66. Shares in Thermogenesis Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:) fell to all time lows; losing 49.56% or 0.11 to 0.11.
The , which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 4.15% to 27.28 a new 1-month low.
Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.60% or 9.95 to $1,667.95 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 3.31% or 2.82 to hit $88.14 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract rose 2.52% or 2.31 to trade at $94.05 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 1.17% to 1.01, while USD/JPY fell 1.03% to 146.38.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 1.15% at 109.55.
