BobbysBrane | Empyrion DC announces 40MW Seoul data center | SINGAPORE /PRNewswire/ — Empyrion DC, the first developer of a green data center in Asia, made the announcement today that it will be creating a 40MW green data center in Gangnam, which is located in Seoul, South Korea (“GDC”). Empyrion DC has intentions to invest up to US$400 million in GDC, and as part of that plan, they have inked a legally binding deal with a local promoter to purchase one hundred percent of the development rights. It is anticipated that the closure will take place prior to the end of September 2022, provided that the conventional closing requirements are satisfied.
Gangnam is commonly referred to be Seoul’s “Silicon Valley,” and it is the location of the headquarters of several of the most important and successful Korean businesses, including Hyundai, Kia, LG, and Samsung. Empyrion DC’s GDC project will help ease the data center supply shortfall in Gangnam and the greater metropolitan Seoul area. This is due to the fact that Gangnam has not seen the construction of a new data center for more than a decade. The building crew anticipates that they will be able to start work on the project before the year 2022 comes to a close.
Empyrion DC has formed partnerships with a number of the industry’s most renowned architects and engineers in order to turn GDC into the first green energy enabled data center in Seoul. Building Integrated Photovoltaic Panels (BIPV) of a high efficiency will be installed on the facade of the 10-story building that will be constructed as part of this project. Empyrion DC uses its in-house knowledge in energy management to cut down on its carbon footprint and build GDC in a way that is in line with standards of energy efficiency that are considered to be of world-class quality.
“Through the use of our extensive local networks in Seoul, we were able to locate this one-of-a-kind transaction that was not offered anywhere else in the market. In light of the fact that Seoul is rapidly running out of data center supply, and in light of the fact that we plan to achieve’ready-for-service’ status in 2024, we already have customers asking to lease entire floors “James Chern, Chairman and Managing Partner of Seraya Partners, shared his thoughts on the matter. Empyrion DC is a portfolio firm that Seraya Partners manages, and those funds hold 100% of the company.
After the deal is finalized, GDC will become Empyrion DC’s second investment in a data center. Empyrion DC additionally owns and operates the SG1 Dodid data center in Singapore. In addition to this, the company is currently developing approximately 200 MW worth of projects throughout Asia. Empyrion DC maintains regional offices in both Seoul and Taipei in addition to its main office in Singapore.
